The Seven Wonders of the World
There are many different lists. The origal concept seems to come from and ancient list, now called the Seven Wonders of the 'Ancient' World. Of those seven, only the Great Pyramid at Giza survives to this day. The new 'wonders' list respectfully includes in on the current list as an honorary member.
The new list, or maybe I should say 'lists', are composed based on online global polling from a swiss corporation called the New7Wonders Foundation. They are widely accepted as the benchmark for deciding the seven wonders. There are many other lists and many incredible locations not on lists. For me it's not about thinking these are the main locations in the world I should aspire to go to. I just plan on making it a point to see them if I'm ever in the vicinity.
The New7Wonders of the World are as follows:
Great Wall of China.
Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro
Machu Picchu in Peru
Chichen Itza
Roman Colosseum
Taj Mahal in India
Petra in Jordan
This list deals with man made structures. It's missing the tallest building, the largest dam, etc... Those other man made structures are surely wonders of the world even though they are not included. They might not have the sexiness of the other items on the list but they are "wonders" none the less. There are also a few other lists we are interested in.
